The Truth About Carbs

Going on a low carb, high protein diet has worked for many people who have struggled to lose weight by dieting.  The problem is that it isn’t a permanent fix and people generally return to eating carbs the way they did before.  The result is of course that the weight is gained back and the dieter is where he started or worse.

The truth about carbs is that you can’t radically stop the intake of carbs from your diet.  The healthiest diet and best body weight requires an intake of carbs.

The severe high protein diets seem to be only a temporary solution for most people who have gone on them.  Eating carbs is the method of meeting the bodies demands for raising blood sugar levels.  The idea behind these diets is since you aren’t eating carbs that you will start burning fat.  That’s true.  Again the truth about carbs is that the weight lost in the dieting stage will be gained back when the yearning for carbs is given in to.

The best and healthiest diet is a combination of protein, fat and carbohydrates.  Generally 40% of calories should be derived from carbs, 30% from protein and 30% from fats.  Everyone’s metabolism is different but this is the rule of thumb.

The truth about carbs is that they are a necessary part of all of our diets and not eating carbs can result in weight and fat loss temporarily.  However the high protein, low carb diets seem to only work for a while and eventually the carb cravings result in gaining back weight that was lost.
