4 Tips For Healthy Eating Habits

When you’re trying to lose weight you are also trying to get healthier.  Healthy eating habits go with healthier recipes.

•    Because people are becoming so much more health conscious it’s not that difficult to find lean meats.  Buy beef that is labeled as round or lean.  Use cooking pans that are non-stick and don’t use butter or oil on the pan.  The sprays you find in the store are a much better choice.  Watch your portion sizes also.

•    Chicken is a healthy meat choice but be careful how you cook it.  No fried chicken, nuggets or patties.  Roast it, broil it or bake it.  Try to drain the fat as much as possible before serving.  Remember also to buy the breasts and other white meat as they only contain half as much fat as dark meat.  Also remove the skin before cooking or eating.

•    When you’re cooking turkey cook the stuffing separately so the fat from the bird won’t get into the stuffing.  Use the least amount of butter  possible in the stuffing.  Healthy eating habits always include skimming fat off of gravy and meat as much as possible.

•    Instead of a casserole that is heavy in calories, serve vegetables that have been steamed.  Don’t use margarine or oils to season the vegetables.  Use spices and herbs to give extra flavor or maybe a broth instead of oil.  You must be a little imaginative when breaking in healthier recipes.

Healthy eating habits don’t have to be painful and dull.  You just need to be aware of what you’re doing in the kitchen and look for alternatives to some of the habits you are in.  Healthier recipes will become second nature and you’ll find you can lose weight and still eat with satisfaction.
