Low Fat Dieting- Your Health Comes First
One of the goals of low fat dieting is lowering our intake of fat. Dieting meal plans usually concentrate on this part of your everyday eating habits first. However care must be taken. Your health must be the first concern in any weight loss campaign.
It seems strange but extremely low fat diets in which less than 10% of daily calorie intake is fat have been shown to be unhealthy. These diets are associated with an increase in bad cholesterol and a decrease in the good cholesterol levels. These results are linked to heart disease.
Researchers recommend that salt and sugar content should be monitored as well as fats. They feel that fats are an important part of the diet where too much salt and refined sugar have no place in a healthy plan of low fat dieting. Dieting meal plans must also contain high levels of minerals and nutrients that are lacking in extremely low fat diets.
The American Heart Association recommends that no more than 30% of daily intake be fat and a maximum of 300 mg. of cholesterol per day. These are important considerations when deciding to enter a weight loss plan involving low fat dieting. However it’s important to also understand that if you are overweight your dieting meal plans will change your daily pattern of over 30% intake of fat to less than that. This is not harmful or unhealthy.
