Low fat living probably involves some lifestyle changes but maybe it’s not as bad as you might think. Fat, for instance, is necessary in your everyday diet. Should we cut out carbs then? Definitely not. We need those too but I must say the right ones. Refined sugars are out but low fat ingredients we need are whole grain rice, breads and pastas.
Guidelines are: no more than 2 grams of saturated fat per tablespoon of margarine, corn, safflower and olive oils. Low fat living means less than 7 percent of your total calories should be saturated fats.
Low fat ingredients will help keep your cholesterol intake below a recommended maximum of 300 mg per day. Sodium intake less than one teaspoon per day. To help you lower calories and reduce the risk of heart disease have fish at least twice a week. Go meatless at least a couple of times a week and more if you don’t mind meatless eating.
Whole grain pasta is low in saturated fat and high in fiber. Don’t fry foods. Instead of regular whole milk, use non fat or low fat alternatives. Do the same for cheeses. You can avoid butter in sauces by using herbs and seasoning. Just remember how low fat living will give your arteries some relief. These low fat ingredients are literally just what the doctor ordered.
