Weight Loss Goals- How to Share Them With Family and Friends

I know that talking about weight loss goals with family and friends is about as comfortable as a root canal.  But these people need to know what changes you’re trying to make and that goes double for weight management programs.  They will probably surprise you by reacting in a helpful way.  You need to talk to them or you’ll never know where they are coming from and you want their support if possible.

I hope that you take pride in the decision you’re making about changing your life.  If they make fun of you because of your food choices, well that’s part of being a family.  Don’t take it to heart.  Hopefully you can explain to them what your weight loss goals are and have them supporting your efforts.

You can show family how serious you are by choosing and cooking healthy foods and being disciplined about exercise.  When they realize that you aren’t just playing around the odds are that they will eventually get behind you and maybe even see the benefits for them.

It might seem to you like you are being selfish but don’t feel guilty!  You are likely the only person in your family working on weight management programs and that’s okay.  If you pass on dessert just say you are full from dinner.  Claim that you like vegetables, skim milk and other low calorie choices.  If you are asked why you are going for another walk, just say it feels good to be outside and to appreciate the day.

Weight loss goals are way too important to be sidetracked by family and friends who may be skeptical or see humor in your life changes.  That’s normal and let’s hope that your resolve and healthy attitudes rub off on them.
